some two stroke outboard powerheads mounted inboard... the Mercury 4 cyl or "Quincy Looper" and a Konig, but these were required to run gasoline which was a bigger handicap than was needed. The Crosleys were on top until 1971.
In the 850 cc era the Imp was dominant, with only some seriously tweaked Fiats having any chance at all.
