Response to Vintage and SST's and Water Ski Shows |
| Columbus Ohio around 1969-70 they had a ski show tied in with the race. The pits around the dock were becoming crowded while the ski show was going on so we, the 150 class was told to fire up and sit on the course until the show ended. So we all left the pits and gathered at the second turn to give room to the skiers. The last part of the show was a kite act. Well the kite had a problem and the flier crashed badly. Rescue boat were dispatch and it took half an hour to get the course cleaned up so racing could resume. Mean while we had drifted nearly to Briggs Dam. We could hardly see the judges stand when the 5 minute gun was finally fired.
As in the old days at the Detroit unlimited races the limited were used as fill in between heats of unlimited. If all goes well it can be a good show. But as in the case of Columbus it did cause a problem which was not considered in the time schedule.
The more events added, the more chance of unexpected problems. |
