Taking the pills abroad

July 5 2004 at 11:00 AM
Rach.

Hi,

I might be going on holiday abroad for two weeks in a couple of months and I'm a bit worried about taking the tablets with me....has anyone else done this??

Noone knows I am taking the tablets so as soon as I get the bottles of tablets I peel the labels off them.

When you take pills abroad there supposed to be in there original packets in the little foil strips.

Do you think they would look dodgey if I put them in a Natures best (Herbal bottle) or do you think it would be better to buy a new bottle that is still seeled when I leave the country, I would die if my case was checked and they pulled out a bottle with "Breast Enlargement" on the side of it :-)

I've heard about pills must be in the original packets, but that rule is for medicines. As Wonderup is not a drug or a medicine maybe that rule doesn't apply. I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that herbs are foods and would never come in foil packets or anything like that. On the other hand, if anyone looked at them, how would they know that they were foods and not medicines? It's difficult to tell just by looking.

I would probably put them in another health food bottle. they smell so strong of spices etc i cant imagine anyone would think they were drugs!

I travelled round the world with god knows how many vitamins and other remedies, not wonderup though, but never got checked. i even carried some in my hand luggage, and they were never picked up on xray.

I wouldnt worry too much. at the end of the day if they do send them off to see if they are dodgy, youve got nothing to hide, just be honest. ;)

If I were you, I would tell airport staff, and make sure eveyone is aware what they are. Believe me if you are travelling to turkey, greece or any of those countries, you dont want to be found with pills on you of any description. I went to Australia once and they have sniffer dogs searching you for everthing, even chocolate and fruit. I would be totally upfront about it, to be on the safe side.

Don't be worrying, I brought mine in their original packaging to Lanzorote in my hand luggage a few weeks ago, in additon to other vitamins.

Going abroad

July 6 2004, 10:03 AM

Hi

Thanks everyone....
I think I'll just buy another bottle and keep it sealed with the original label on it. If I put them in another bottle then that seems like your trying to hide something as the contents aren't matching what it says on the bottle!!

Also does anyone know if there are any rules like if pill have to be in your hand luggage or can you put them in your case? there less likly to be checked if there in a case.
As I said I would be sooooooo embarrased if they pulled out a wonderup bottle with a picture of breats on in front of everyone I was going on holiday with :-)

Holiday

Hi Rach,

I was thinking the same thing myself, as I'm off to Ibiza on Saturday. The last message about sniffer dogs has got me worried tho! I think I'm gonna have to keep them in the original bottle like you said, cos then they can test them if you get stopped. Gonna be nervous though, going thru, cos apart from that my belly bar always sets the alarms off!

Anyway, have a good holiday

Hi Lottie,
I took them in the original bottle in my hand luggage. I never got searched or sniffed at by dogs, so I had no problems. I went to copenhagen recently and took some of them in a colgate chewing gum box (which is my usual method of disguise for my handbag!) and I did get sniffed by dogs on my return into Manchester airport. They never paid any attention to me though, so I dont think dogs would sniff them out even in a bottle. They are trained to sniff out specific class A drugs and explosives so I really think you've got nothing to worry about.
Have a good holiday!

Thanks Marion i think i will just do what you did and have them in the original bottle and put them in my hand luggage.I think its just the thought of getting your bag searched and being embarassed, although ive never had my bag searched but i think its because you know you have them and you don't want anyone else to know you take them, you them feel guilty and think you have something to hide.Silly really!

It's probably worth remembering that wonderup is a food rather than a medicine. When we talk about pills we make it sound like we're taking drugs, when in fact we are actually eating foods. Maybe this makes a difference.

But if you are in a foreign country (turkey for instance) they can make a mountain out of a molehill. I would rather carry them in my hand luggage. Better to be safe than sorry. Australia is a nightmare to get through, dogs even sniff out oranges or any sweets. Its a shame we dont have that sort of security in this country.

Wonderup is technically not pills, because herbal tablets are just pressed herbs really, so it's food you're carrying and shouldn't pose any problems. If you took the labels off it might invite suspicion though.

Take them in your hand luggage

I would rather die of 'embarassment' than be stopped for suspicious reasons. You could land yourself in all sorts of trouble in a foreign country, with pills with no label on. I personally (having travelled all over the world) play it safe, and always take any medicines in my hand luggage with the correct label on. It is always better to be safe than sorry. I was stopped and searched all over in Germany once all because I smiled at one of the guards. They thought I had something to hide.

Hi Rach,

Hope you're OK. I just got back from Corfu yesterday and took WU in the original bottle in my hand luggage. I had no problems at all with it so I'm sure you'll be fine.

Where are you going?

Lou. xx

Hi

Thanks for telling me that....I'd prefer not to go than to stop taking the pills for two weeks, its a slow enough process for me when I take them regularly every day.
I'm not sure about taking protein powder though?? what do you think?
I don't know where were going yet? it'll just be a late booking somewhere hot (I need some sun)

Did you have a good time? how long did you go for?

How are you getting on with Wonderup? have you had any progress since I was last in touch?
I think I am just growing very gradualy now so I'm not really noticing any major differences.

Are you still loosing weight or have you reached your goal?

Good luck

Luv Rach x

Hiya Rach,

I went for 2 weeks. Had a great time thanks! I stopped dieting whilst on holiday and haven't managed to get back into yet!

Someone told me the other day that skimmed milk has a lot of protein in so maybe instead of taking the protein powder with you you could just drink a pint of that a day?
