I think it is better to vote strictly on issues that for a particular political party. If a certain political party knows they have your vote by virtue of a label, they will take you and your vote for granted. It might turn out that you will generally vote for a candidate who is a Republican or a Democrat, but the candidates should always know they have to earn your vote.
