I probably read National Geographic too much as a child. I always thought of women's make-up as war paint, and I wasn't looking for a warrior-woman. As for body piercings, there were a lot of them shown, and I thought that they made the poeple look ugly.
Readers Digest also had its effect. It's been over half a century since I read it, but I still remember, probably in "Life in these United States," a woman telling about going to a dance. As she walked in, she passed two sailors, and heard one say to the other "Too much sail for such a little ship." She said that it was her first, and last, time to wear falsies.
I'm in my 60s now, and still prefer the natural look for both men and women. Deception isn't becoming. I arried a woman with no make-up and no ear rings. | |
