I had not heard about the Governor either but I thought a governor had no choice when the president wanted to federalize the NG. I recall when the governor of Arkansas was using the National Guard to block blacks from integrating Little Rock High School, President Eisenhower took control of the NG away from him. I was only 11 at the time but already a news junkie following this closely because our schools were suppose to be desegregated too and I wanted to know what to expect.
