Response to unprofessional?

I think you're aiming low when you feel the forced choice is "The prefessionally dressed rude and/or incompetent worker" vs. the "Sloppily, inappropriately dressed but polite and attentive worker."

What you want is: "The appropriately-dressed, reliable, competent, hard-working and polite worker". They aren't mutually-exclusive qualities. In today's "have it all" world, employers should insist upon that combination.
