Well I'm not particularly familiar with European broadcast standards but it appears the "common market" idea of uniform standards throughout Europe isn't working out too well. There appears to be a variety of standards in use with France, as usual being different then most- as they were with the old analog TV. While Britain and most European countries adopted a 625-line standard, France went with 819-lines. There is a perception here in the west that France makes it a point to be different.
