I'm pretty sure I did and several movies like it. This "ancient astronaut" idea was a very popular fad in the early '70s what with the moon landings going on. Everybody was interested in space. And I was into this stuff even before that- even while still in H.S. (about '62-63) I used to stay up late at night listening to Long John Neble on WOR talk about stuff like this. I even corresponded with one of his frequent guest- Major Allan Keyhole- the head of NICAP which was the first flying saucer research group (other than "Bluebook"). I was a weird kid.
But even Von Daniken admits the idea wasn't original with him- it had been kicking around a long time- he just documented various weird mysteries and artifacts like the Nazca lines and Stonehinge and ancient cave paintings that resemble spacemen and spacecraft and brought it all to the public' attention.
