I also note the stated stats about growth of jobs . . but one job is not like the next or any other job. A friend was working for a tool and die shop, making over $16 per hour, and then that shop closed due to outsourcing to a slave labor country. His best local propspect was working at Target . . for $9.00 an hour. So, yes, one job replaced another, but at just over 1/2 the wage.
I think this is an example of the "voodoo economics" (to quote Sr. Bush) that the current Bush Administration employs. Yes, the laid-off GM worker eventually finds a low-wage job elsewhere in the economy . . . one job replaced by another . . . as the chicken ad once said, "Parts is parts" . . . and gets sodomized economically in the exchange.
