I can tell you aren't as old as me- there wasn't even such a thing as pocket calculators when I was in school! I never even saw one until about 1971. At college I did use a "portable" calculator that was the size of a suitcase! The first pocket calculator I ever own was a Texas Instruments TI-10 that I bought for $240 in 1973 dollars! Today you could buy the equivalent for $10 at WalMart.

But for most of my school career all I had was a slip-stick. I still have a well worn one from 45 years ago. At the time I though it was magical. Today a $10 calculator would run circles around it- to eight decimal places. We've come a long way baby.
