I don't think all religions use the term "god" so it not truly generic. And there have been people who have protested the "In God we trust" thing- and lost. But it's not a big deal- as you say- most people don't think about it- which is all the more reason it seems unnecessary to be mixing religion and secular things like money. Even you appear to agree with that so it's good to end on a point of agreement.
