I think the problem for America is the demographic shift that is occurring where the smartest, best-educated and most productive people are the ones who are having the fewest kids. Advanced college courses like medical, engineering, physics, chemistry are filled with foreign students because there are not enough Americans who are interested or scholastically qualified to be in them. The US use to lead the world in technology- the transistor, integrated circuits, lasers, fiber optics and so much more of modern technology was invented here- but that's not happening anymore. Nearly all the major technological advances in the last twenty years have come from Asia and Europe.
