You used the phrase "Material world" and I think this is the key difference between the '60s youth and today. Back in '60s youth tended to shun materialism and going around in ragged clothes, drive cheap Beetle Volkswagens or patched up junk, live in communes with few amenities, live off the land, etc, etc.
Compare this to today's kids who insist on brand-name clothes, drive expensive new cars, and generally have a goal in life of making as much money as they possibly can.
Madonna summed it up in her 1885 song "Material Girl". And ironically, I think Madonna was also the most significant influence in getting teen girls wedded to bras.
