This is exactly the point at which religions start to be dangerous: when believers in one religion think they have a legitimacy to make laws that apply to all.
I don't see why I would accept any law / rule / decision made on the basis of a religion I don't belive in. Decisions made by humans are far more acceptable because they are made by rational beings, and (in a true democracy) with the participation of all human beings reaching a consensus.
