On the face of it, it appears that there are serious lapses in security within the FBI and (I'm sure) other agencies. In an agency that large, with so many devices and opportunities for breaches, I think it is probably inevitable that some loss of weapons and computers will occur. I question if the use of laptop computers to store highly-classified information is wise. It seems to me that the portability of these computers, while convenient for field work, makes their theft so much easier. Perhaps the agencies should only use laptops for less sensitive work and information. Perhaps they should keep the most sensitive info. on large mainframe-type computers that someone couldn't just pick-up and leave with. I'm no expert on any of this, but it does appear that the risks are inherent with the convenience and portability, and that security requires making access more difficult.
