Well first off- no one is suggesting a "government run healthcare"- we are talking about a government run INSURANCE system- the actual healthcare will be provided by the private sector as it is now.
As for schools, I agree that public schools are crap now- but it wasn't always this way. I think I got a damn good public school education that was probably equivalent to many colleges now. But I graduated in 1964 just before (for politically incorrect reasons we can't talk about) schools went to hell in the late 1960s. But the point is- public schools were once very good and they could be good again- but not without pissing off a lot of people.
