Well, naturally, we didn't have the same past and we probably don't have the same present either. But of course that's one reason we're here, to share our experiences, both past and present.
There used to be a similiar thing to these internet forums and that was letters to the editor. Of course, they're still around and although you don't have the almost instant response you usually get on the internet, it amounts to the same thing. In fact, in newspapers, you can almost count on a lot of letters about some trivial thing following up some article of a week ago or the like but sometimes they are interesting and very informative.
In the same way, sometimes even more interesting letters appear in special interest magazines but there usually isn't the exchange between different letter writers that sometimes happens in newspapers, no doubt because of the time constraints.
One unfortunate thing about internet forums and the like is the possibility of their completely disappearing for one reason or another. Forums do have something like an owner, same with Yahoo groups, though the Yahoo groups have a bad habit of turning into total spam. Different forums have different organizations structures, you no doubt know, which tend to make some easier to use and follow than others. |
