I'd like to meet you in June
by
Hola. I found your site...well done. I'll be coming to B A June 4. I'm going to try to come meet you. Do you still meet in café DALI (next door to "Centro Cultural Recoleta")between 7 and 9:30pm approx. every Tuesday ? I read that in one of Jose's note. What is the street address? What can you tell me about Aspen Suites? Is it nice? and is it centrally located?
Atention! We don´t get together at Dali´s anymore... We are still meeting at Recoleta Area but at a different Cafe!!
We prefer not to leave the adress here so I´m sending you the new adress by email.
Sorry, I´m afraid I don´t know nothing about Aspen Suites... let me search some info...
Gracias.

Hello to everyone and thanks for this very informative site. I am from Australia and will travel to your country in March - I hope I get the opportunity to meet some of you.
I have spent the past 2 years teaching English in India, Nepal and Taiwan and now hope to find some teaching work in Buenos Aires. There are four areas I would really appreciate some advice about.
Firstly, how difficult is it to find teaching work? I understand jobs are advertised in the english language newspapers but are there other ways of finding teaching jobs?
Secondly, I would appreciate any suggestions about cheap, clean accommodation - around US$10.00 - I don't mind if it is pretty basic but it would be good if it was central.
Thirdly, can anyone recommend a school that offers CHEAP Spanish lessons.
And finally, are scooters used as a common form of commuting and if so is it possible for a foreigner to buy one?
I will be relocating to Buenos Aires with my family in Feb/March next year and I'm trying to find out more about the city (particularly cost of living, education, accommodation and so on).
I would love to hear from anyone who can help at all either directly, or by pointing me in the direction of other forums, etc.
Let us to know exactly what you want to know and we will help you. For example: the cost of accommodation depens on the place of the city where you want to live and the size of the appartment.
Dear Kieron,
I am a regular "tea-timer" who read your message. I'd like to start by saying that we will welcome you in our meetings in café DALI (next door to "Centro Cultural Recoleta")between 7 and 9:30pm approx. every Tuesday. I think that meeting a good deal of varied local people will be benefitial for you (as it is for any newcomer). At the same time we will have the opportunity to know each other better, and to reciprocally practise languages.
However, I could advance you some tips about present situation in Argentina.
Cost of life is very similar to any European country (France, England) There are obvious differences, for the better,in those things that are abundant here (e.g meat); and for the worse in other items which are considered more sophisticated here (video cameras, or a Mercedes-Benz). Buenos Aires is a 10 million inhab city where you can get the same things as in any other big city in the world.
As regards education (and I daresay anything else)you have from 5-star-quality to Zero-star-quality, it is all a question of being able to afford it. The great problem for too many argentinians is not the absence of things/services to be bought, but the lack of money to do so. Unemployment, under-employment, low salaries are among the hardest problems that a country which once was the 7th economic power in the world (1900-1930) must presently face.
In short, Kieron, provided you have no laboral problems and you are justly paid in your job, you and your family won't have any problem in order to acquire the same things that you can acquire at your home. The only problem you will probably have is the sorrow you may feel for the many people who have their basic needs unsatisfied.
We wait for you in our get-togethers where we may share a common reading of the Argentine (and international) situation.
All the best

As.
chau chau
P.D. When in Buenos Aires, an evening or two or three or more with the 'Teatimers' is a DEFINITE MUST. Don't miss this fabulous opportunity to meet people from around the world and make new and lasting friendships.
Y gracias a teatime,

Sarah.
