I'm a salesman at a Mazda dealership in Arizona.I have driven Mazda cars and trucks since the late 80's.I'm now rolling a 1986 B2000,119,000 miles, rusted but trusty.
The only truck I want is a B2600i 4x4,extended cab, like an LE5 model. They seem to be in very limited supply, making me think that they are either so dependable; nobody wants to get rid of one or,there were very few made.I have searched all over and one 1991 4x4 by my work has been on sale for many months now at $7,000,with 114,000 miles.A 2wd cab plus at my work needs a computer module worth over $2000,plus repair costs.
I have a good knowledge about most Mazda vehicles, except the B2600i models.
How good are they?Which year was the very best?

Ben, you may want to try changing your manual transmission oil from gear oil to ATF or a combination of both like I did. I have a 91 B2600i 4x4 Cab Plus and found it stiff shifting last winter, when I bought it, until it warmed up. A friend of mine is a Mazda machanic who told me that gear oil is very thick and this causes the sluggishness when it's cold. I went with 1 liter of 80w 90 gear oil and ATF for the remainder and haven't had a problem with it since, even when it's been really cold.

I started buying mazdas in 1985.
I now have a 1990 b2600i xtra cab runs great at 154000 miles.
The only real trouble I have had is a over heating problem . no water leaks, no water in the oil, replaced the thermostate, any Ideas?

I just bought a '93 B2600i extended cab 2WD less than a month ago. I bought the 2wd because I wanted to lower it. Mine has a 187k on the clock now and seems just fine. I can't complain about anything on it other than it smells a little rich when cold and I should probably change the belts soon. It has been dependable for me. I paid $2900 for it..sorta seemed like a lot, but it really isn't. When I was searching, trucks ranged mostly in the $2-4k range. One dealer had a 4wd model that was really nice, but it had a miss to it and they wanted $8k for it! Check out autotrader.com, they usually have plenty of trucks in the washington state area...I would assume there would be some in Arizona. Also, recycler.com is a good place to look.

I just bought a 91 B2600i 4x4 with the auto tranny. It has only 137,000kms. The truck is very tight still, but seems to heat up to nearly the top of the heat gauge. It also seems to burn fuel quite bad. I don't know how many km's or miles I should get out of a full tank but its very low right now. Anyone have any ideas of what could cause these issues or what I should change-thermostat, air filter, catalytic converter...???

Salesman - which dealership - Bell? I'm also in AZ, and drive a 1988 B2200 125K 10 years now, and my only issue is lack of power when driving up North or getting onto I-17 with the construction. I'd personally like a low-mileage 1990-1993 B2600i 2WD 5 speed as I don't like auto and I don't need 4WD. R-12 AC preferred. You're correct, there aren't a lot of these vehicles around in AZ, I'd say more due to the weakness and very small number of Mazda dealerships here; just look at all the Ford Rangers around and the 1994-on Mazda trucks are essentially the same truck from the very same assembly line. I'd say you have to be very patient, and lucky; what I did in 1994 was actually tape notes to parked B2200s asking them to call if they were interested in selling (I wanted a truck where the rear seats faced forward, not sideways). It was a great idea, but it didn't pan out, and a month later I found mine with 40K miles, perfect except for noisy AC compressor which I replaced myself. Bell Auto Upholstery re-did my front seats a few years ago, and did a great job at a decent price.

hmmm...not exactly sure what you mean by worth over 2k plus repair costs for the ECM. there are at least 2 places that specialize in Mitsubishi ECM repair, and i think they charge around $250. One is in Texas, and the other is in Florida.....supposodly the Florida place is better...but if you want to give me 2k for a used ECM, i got one for ya.

"The only problem is its hard to find aftermarket parts and when i try and put the 5 speed in gear its hard to find the gears on a cold start and i have to ease the clutch out to get in gear."

Ben,

Your problem is most likely a worn syncronizer fork on 5th and reverse. A decent machine shop should be able to put a little tack weld on the contact points and then surface it back down. Other than that running a different fluid will be your best bet. Mobile 1 synthetic gear oil will help a little or like said before you can run ATF or 10w-30 or thicker motor oil. If you go with the motor oil I would run 20w-50 or thicker, it will still be much thinner and easier to shift then the gear oil but will provide better protection then the thinner ATF or 10w-30.

If you guys have any other questions feel free to drop my site a post.

well yeah i have a 91 4x4 and i love it!! it is very good off road but im also having a fuel prblem it doesnt give that much fuel mileage...but other than that it has no problems i was crashed but i fixed it up my self and i also got some bigger tires which makes it look better i also re-painted it black and tinted windows just that i couldn't find the 4x4 fenders i went to the dealer and they cost 280 dollars each so i just bought the regular 2wd ones but it looks kinda funny but who cares the engine is clean well not that clean i took it off roading the other day and its kinda dirty but no internal problems and yes they are hard to come by i want to buy another one so i could have one stock and have the other one baja style with the fenders and all that great stuff

Just got this off a friend of mines dad. Has a miss right now, am taking to the shop tomorrow to hopefully find out the problem. Had an 87 4X4 several years back and it was an awsome truck. This one is 4X4 also and is all stock. Has a little hail damage on top and hood but just wanted it for a daily driver, hopefully it will get better fuel mileage than my silverado, lol. Would consider selling once it is fixed if anyone is interested. Probably somewhere around $2500.00 as long as it runs out good. Miss seems to be coming from the #1 cylinder as far as I can tell. Any ideas?

Maybe all the B2600i's are extend cabs but if not, this one is.
