Well I went to BAP Auto Parts and got a rebuilt engine for my 88 b2200 ($1,100). It's been a year now since I did it and it runs great. I had to do it because my rings was shot and she was smoking like crazy.

Cracked Block?

It's pretty hard to crack an F2 block unless you pour cold water in the coolant system while its hot or something like that. The 2.2l MX-6, 626 and Ford Probe all have pretty much the same engine. Those are all 12v heads though and the distributor won't fit in the engine compartment, it runs out the back of the head. So its either you get a new B2200 engine or you find one listed above and swap out everything mounted to the cylinder head. I'm sure you will find an option that suits you if you keep on looking.
