Engine for 84 B2000

I have an old 1984 Mazda B2000 and the engine is getting tired. I could find another B2000 engine and rebuild it, but I would like a few more ponies under the hood. Any suggestions on what more powerful engine I could replace it with, or where I could find parts to boost up the old engine (or similar) when I rebuild it?

The only reason I would get another engine to rebuild, is because I still need the truck in service. This would minimize down time.

Thanks.

Engine to Rebuild

Well the engine thats in your truck isn't too hard to find its a 2.0l FE. If I was going to do a rebuild I would go with a 2.2l F@ which is what is in the B2200, 2.2l MX-6, 626 and Ford Probe. The B2200 would be the easiest swap for you because the distributor wouldn't interfere witht the firewall. Look around in the forum especially the first few pages and you will find posts from me Keir and a bunch of other guys as to suggestions for getting more power out of the engine, especially if you plan to rebuild. If you can find an intake manifold from a B2200 that should add a little power to your 2.0l engine. The runners are designed better for no. 2 and 3 cylinders and it would give you time to port the intake if you are skilled to do that, I wouldn't do it though if you're going to pay an arm and a leg for the intake. B2200 uses the same carb as the B2000 so all you need is the intake. The B2200 Intake also has a lot more beef in the casting wich will allow you to open it up in other areas as well.
