I am trying to change the spark plugs. But when I try and get them out it seems they are very hard to back them out. I am afraid that I will strip the head if I try to hard. Is this a common problem with this engine ???

Make sure the engine is cold when removing the plugs.

No, It is not common to have a hard time removing the plugs. Make sure you have a good grip with a good socket and large ratchet, try thightening a bit first and than try to loosen. If the plug turns hard, spray a lot of oil and go back and forth till the plug gets easy to turn..
When you do finally get them out, put some antisieze on the new plugs..
Good Luck

I have a 626 with 249900+mi,and changed the plugs once...ONCE. Hardest plug I have ever taken out. I think it's due to a combo hot running engine (2.0?)and the aluminum head. I think the metal difference between the plug/head might cause these things to be really tough to get out. My advice, buy new first, and do it while cold.It feels like they're gonna strip out right? I had to replace three of them, snapped them like twigs, no wonder, had to slip a three foot pipe over the socket wrench just to get enough leverage to turn those buggers.
