If you have a code reader, sometimes it tells you which part of the components failed. Some people would say it is Oxygen sensor failure. I would suggest you get a service manual if you do not trust your Mazda service center and save money.

you have a 2000 mazda 626, so it would be a obd-2 car...you engine"MIL" could come on for 100 different reasons. if your car is still running good but the light is on well chanches are it is nothing that will blow up!!"hehe" you should get the codes read. if you have to get it to mazda then do so but sometimes you can put the pcm is a dignostic mode by grounding or jumping certin wires on the ALDL. now i have no idea about you car but on my mazda b2200 all i have to do is ground a wire and the "MIL" will flash out codes. if you don't know how to read the flashes or jump wiers on the ALDL or have no idea how to find out which wire to use, then i suggest you bring it to a shop and get a scan tool hooked up. but don't leave it!! it's a new car..mazda will take care of it for you..it's still a new car. the engine light"MIL" is there for a reason=0) hope it works out for ya!! later
