Squeeky brakes on 626

I replaced the front pads and turned the rotors on my 626 about 6 months ago but have noticed some occasional squeeking when coming to full stop. (5-1 mph) I have removed and re-cleaned the rotors & pads and installed anti squeak to the back of the pads. I think the retainer springs are installed OK, but the brakes still squeak. Has anyone had experience with this? Is there some special trick to these brakes that I am missing? I followed the haynes manual closely. TIA!

Don't know what year your 626 is, but I have a 98 and my car does the exact thing. Mazda advised there's a shim kit you can add to the back of the pad, that decreases jitter on the pad.

Don't know if it works, however thought I'd share it with ya!

Thanks for the info. Mine is a 99. I'll check with the dealer parts area for this shim kit.

That happen alot... Yes you need to get the shims.... You also need to get a can spray (can't remember exactly what's called but it should say something about anti sqeak for brack pads) it's available at your local parts store.. after you place the shims on the back of the pads... spray on the anti sqeek all over the back of the pads (yes, over the shims)... The spray should come out red... it's sticky so be careful... let dry and put the pads back in... that should fix it...

Well, I went through the same problem, I even thought it was crappy pads so I took it to like 4 different shops in about a year and a half cause besides squeeling, they would rattle, so the guy from the last shop told me, listen, you have to buy the shim for the back of the pad, well, I contacted several dealers and told me they don't sell them separately, they they alraedy come with the pads. So to tell you the truth, I always bought aftermarket parts to try to save money and at the end, I spent double the money with non mazda parts than if I would had taken it to the dealer to get them done, which I did at the end and they've been smooth for about 10 months now...

u dont need the shims, what u do is before u change ur pads front and rear get a hacksaw and cut into the pad itself with (2) lines from the middle to the outter of the pad cut about quater into the pad as if u were cutting an (A) into them that should stop any noise!

good tip...

The reason for the squeekyness in about a year time is b/c the pads matalisize... That's y they squeek.
The V pattern can help, but it doesn't tottally stop it.. Ask about quiet stop pads at ur local parts store, they stop a little slower, but they work... the reason is they are made from a high density, high temp, porcilin type material...
as long as you have standard rotars (not cross drilled or slotted), and solid metal pads, they will heat up and metal rubbing metal causes they to metalisize... If u are a heavy braker, ur rotars will heat up too and also may warp... You may want to change ur rotars to cross drilled ones and the quite stop pads if you have they money if not... don't brake so hard... save it for the track.
