mx3 auto trans

I have a 1993mx3 with a bad auto trans. Does it slide back from the motor, and drop out the bottom, or does the motor and trans come out in one piece? What is a fair price for a good used automatic?

If you are going to get a new tranny. You might as well get a manual one because mazda dont make good auto tranny.
