I have a 98 Protege and the Check enigine light is on and won't go off after I start the car. I had the oil changed - is there a switch or fuse to check??

maybe the oil is not the problem...bring it to a shop and have the codes read...if there are no codes it is on for a maintence reminder....you will have to do some little sequence to turn it off. if the car still runs good don't be to woried...but get it checked out.. you can check the codes your self if you know how...

have your o2 sensor checked. that was the problem w/ mine and it can be fixed fairly easily.

Listen, all I keep hearing about is how this light coming on is a precursor to dying trannies... I have a 99 626 and it's the worst car I've ever had... It hesitates all the time and has almost gotten me killed on several occasions...

My engine light also keeps coming on with my 97 protege. It came on last week, took it in and a hose was loose. Now a week later it has come on again. Everything else on the car is fine and it seems to be running good.
