Have a 90 Mazda MPV that started running realy rough. Drove about 65 miles parked the vehicle in a parking lot for about 1 hour and 1/2 and came out vehicle started okay but was running rough and stalls. No idoiot lightw were lit. Thought it might be water in the gas had frozen anthen melted while the car sat. Filled tank with gas and put in dry gas but no difference. It was a very cold day after several warmer days. Had to drive it home the 65 miles. Would not go over 55 mph. Would not acclerate so had to slowly ease it up form 0 to 55 with only the slightest depression of the gas peddle. With any significant dekprssion of gas peddle the transmission would downshift. When I got home and restarted the car after sitting for a while then the trans hold light started to flash and still does.

I have pulled and checked the fuel pump, filter, and gas tank for water. Changed plugs rotor, cap, wires. Now I have intermediate power and running rough. Can not get RPMs to over 5k. Pressure in fuel line was about 70 before and after filter. Fuel preasure held well when left to sit.

Engine light not on and no engine codes are displayed when I check.

Any Ideas?

How do you check this distributor module, or whatever?

Have you had the transmission codes checked?

The flashing hold light indicates a transmission electrical problem. The dealer has a separate code reader for the trans, as opposed to the engine. There is also a separate ECU for the trans. You might check the plugs at the harness to trans, right side of casing, for water, corrosion, shorts, etc.

This model also had a 4 cyl engine available. If its a 4 cyl then check the ECU. If the ECU circuit board has a burnt spot on it then replace it and the injector harness. ( the short one that connects directly to the injectors )

The hold light blinking indicates a code for the transmission problem. It sound to me like you need this code. If you look on the lower left side of your dash, near the fuse box, you should spot a single line connector that is blue. All you have to do is run a ground wire, (with the engine off) from that single lead to the chassis, engine, etc. Then when that is set up, turn the key to the on position. After 1 long blink the hold light will begin to pump out your trans code. The format is a 2 digit code woth the first digit as long blinks and the second digit as short blinks. Let me know what code it displays, and I can tell you what the chiltons says about it. The Chilton's automatic transmission manual has a chart for Mazda codes along with detailed instructions as to how to retrive the codes. My 91 MPV has a bad lock up solenoid which is code 63 according to the book. Hope this helps.
