Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

What should I do? Any experience with this CODE?
Just a recap:

Turn on the car...1000-1200 RPM...trembling...turn on AC...750-1000RPM..Turn off AC...Put in Gear (other than Park)...drops even lower RPM...still trembling....turn on AC again while in gear...500-750 RPM...pretty bad trembling.

THE ENTIRE TIME CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS FLASHING On/Off/On/Off No Pulsing or Patterns of Pausing...

Hit the Gas (while in Park of course) to 3000-4000 RPM... let settle...idles fine. Engine light Solid.

Thats all I got. Take care guys. Hope you can help.

That is a random miss-fire code.I believe that if you check with your dealer there is a recall on this vehicle for a coil( the cause of the code). If it is not taken care of in a timely fashion you could end up needing a cat. also due to the miss-fire, wich may not be covered under warrenty( approx. cost is $600)

We own two, 2000 protege's and both had this problem. Coils. Funny Mazda recalled one of the protege's and not the other, but coils were bad in both cars.

When they do that they have identified a problem with a particular vendor and time of manufacture. The VIN# allows them to make that distinction.

I know this is an older topic but I just discovered it. My daughter in law's 2000 Protege is doing the exact same thing. I have changed plugs and plug wires with no luck. I was planning on starting to look at a possible fuel delivery problem but now I'm going to look at the coils based on the previous post. I'm also going by the dealers at noon to see about the possible recall. Probably too late now though.

Thanks guys...........
