Unless the OD switch is off, no forward gear. Can up shift into third (OD?) manually by turning OD on, then "downshifting" with OD off when below 40 MPH.
From the previous posts, this transmission is a common problem. Is driving like this damaging anything?
Is it usually a specific "shift" or torque converter solenoid? Speed sensor? What's a ball park repair figure?
Is this a Ford transmission? It's a 4 cylinder with 107,000. Great car until now.
Thanks for the specifics!

yes this transmission is a ford and yes you need a transmission. I would suggest using an aftermarket trans cooler mounted in front of the condensor and just bypassing the factory cooler in the radiator. Particles get clogged in the factory cooler and overheats the transmission leading to premature failure. These are not very good transmissions anyway in my opinion.
