Turbo 626 Coupe clutch noises

My '87 626 Turbo is making nasty rattley noises from the gearbox area, that come and go as you depress the clutch. Obviously I'm thinking a clutch kit is probably due, but it begs the billion dollar question... how big a job is it? I've done plenty of clutch / gearbox jobs on conventional rear-wheel drive cars, and am comfortable pulling engines out, rebuilding, etc. It appears that maybe you can remove the gearbox / clutch / drive unit from above without pulling the motor out... but having never done it I'm not sure. Is it just a matter of disconnecting the clutch / gearbox linkages, and driveshafts and unbolting the unit from the engine... or is it a horror job that I best pay someone a lot of money to fix? Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance...

The trans comes out from the bottom. not real hard to do. Sounds like your pilot bearing is locked up. Possibly throwout bearing.
