B2200 Gas motor swapped to Diesel motor ANYONE??August 28 2003 at 9:31 AM No score for this post | Bart |
| My B2200 has about 240,000 miles and is getting to the point of needing some serious work. I have seen the Diesel motors some offer and know that ALL the trucks in Japan are diesel too. Other than the fuel pump, what else would you think/know that would need to be replaced?? Has anyone around here done/tried this?? Thanks. |

You probably already guessed that you will need to change the transmission and the diff, but will also need the fuel filters, including one in the tank if it has one, and if your old motor is carburetted the tank may need a return line plumbed in (easier all round just to change the tank). The diesel motor is probably a fair bit heavier, so you may need to upgrade springs and shocks. You will also need the diesel motor mounts and crossmembers. Your speedometer will need recalibrating. You will need the electrics for the preheater, and the petrol battery wont be big enough.
I would guess that the conversion would probably cost more than a "new" diesel truck. I would also guess that your petrol motor would respond nicely to a new set of rings and bearings and run for the same mileage again if its been looked after. |

I did a diesel to petrol conversion on a Capella and it was a complete re-build. Diesels have no/not much vacuum so they have a vacuum pump for the brakes and therefore you will need the diesel brake booster as well. Electrics are completely different as are the springs/ sway-bar/ shocks. It is a huge job that will end up driving you up the wall. Don't do it! | |
