There are several possibilities. On the west coast there are MANY importers of "low mileage" japanese engines. Typically the engines are only 2000 cc, not the 2200 you need. They are also a bit pricy.
You could search the wreckers for a "Mazda ONLY" wrecking yard. There is one I have dealt with on line in Rancho Cordova, Ca. They frequently list stuff on eBay, so you could look there for their web site.
You could rering and have the head rebuilt. Not so hard. The 2.2 blocks wear remarkably little, so you probably won't have to rebore the cylinders??
Good luck.

Putting another engine in and changing to another type, is a huge job. It's not just the engine you see. The gear boxes can be different with different gear lever actuation (cables V. rods for example), the computers will be different; the wiring and suspension will be different and you might have to change the brakes as well. The heater core and radiator will be different and the list goes on.
A few years ago, I re-powered a Capella that had a pressure-wave supercharged diesel engine with a MX-6 FE3N (2.0 litre, 16V DOHC)-like you, I had a dead engine but perfect body. I purchased a wreck out of Japan NZ$1,000 CIF) and parked it alongside the vehicle that was being re-built and swapped the parts from one to the other. I had the advantage of a fully equipped workshop (and the help and accumulated knowledge of both a retired mechanic and a retired panel-beater) with power lifting equipment and a body hoist and all the necessary tools and it took us a month of hard work and in the end, EVERYTHING except one small air-conditioning suction pipe that runs across the firewall had to be changed over. Fuse box, body wireing, steering rack, brakes (complete, booster, master cylinder, pipes and discs, both front and rear), suspension, dash and instruments, fuel tank and pipes, radiator and heater core... everything! All the bolt holes were there though...
Best you don't even attempt to do it. Recondition what is there, and save youself unbelievable aggravation and stress. I discovered that these cars only look the same... mechanically they are quite different.
