Is it easy to change furl filter on a MilleniaSeptember 4 2003 at 2:28 PM No score for this post | Anonymous |
| Hey,
Just curious how difficult it is to change the fuel filter on a Mazda Millenia. Just didn't know if it was something that could be dangerous.
Thanks |

It is not dangerous, but before you disconnect any fuel lines, make sure you remove the gas tank cap to ent the system. This will keep fuel from coming out under pressure. I assume that your filter is in the same location as in my 99 626 V6. It is close to the brake booster, hiden under a cruise control component that must be removed to see the filter. The filter is inside a holder that is bolted to the engine. There is also a hose clamp clamping the filter to the holder. Always remove the upper fuel line first, invert the filter and drain into a small bowl. Then remove the lower fuel line and take out the filter/holder assembly.
Note: Purolator makes a good replacement filter for about $ 11. |

Thanks for advice. I am almost sure the fuel filter is located in the trunk. I will try it out this weekend.
Thanks again. |

Most EFI fuel systems must be depressurised before you touch the filter. They can hold significant pressure for an extended period, and if you dont, you can end up with a sream of high pressure gas all over the motor.
To depressurise, pull the fuel pump fuse and crank the motor, if it starts run it till it stops, if not just crank it for 30 secs or so.
Also most EFI systems have two filters, an easy one up front and a difficult one in the tank. The one in the tank doesn't usually need much attention during its lifetime. | |
