i was wandering if anyone had replaced a timing belt on a 1994 mpv. i have broken the rod on 3 tensioners tring to insatll it and i was wandering if there was a trick to pulling the pin out of the tensioner so the rod doesn't brake

I believe htey recommend removing the tensioner from the engine, and use a bench vise to compress the rod and the spring until the pin can be inserted. When you reinstall the tensioner, I assume you just pull out the pin with a pair of pliers.

i have done that every time just like the book said and when i pull the pin out it pulls the shaft to one side and brakes it off. i even used antisezie the last time to help lube it up and it still broke. that is the problem i am haveing when i pull the pin out it brake the shaft off the tensioner

can you push against the tensioner with a screwdriver or suchlike to stop putting pressure on the rod?

i tried that the this last time to put pressure on the rod. it was kinda hard put i think i got a littl epressure on it to pull the pin out but i guess it was not enough

You could try using a self tapping screw instead of a pin. It would probably unscrew out of the hole.
