A rotary in a 626? Not even in the Land of the Rising Sun. To the best of my knowledge, the rotary engine has never been mated to a front wheel drive transaxle.... except perhaps as an engineering plaything for the Mazda engineers in Japan.
All rotary's that I've ever seen are front engine, rear wheel drive... RX2, Rx3, RX4, Luce, Cosmo, RX7 and RX8 and a small 10 seater bus. I haven't actually seen one, but Mazda did power some General Motors Holden Kingswood's that were shipped to Japan from Australia in the 1970's with a rotary (V. rare... I think there was something like 200 pcs only).
A rotary 626 would be an interesting drive though... |
