OK, this is a simple question: Where are safe points to jack and support an 89 323.
In the past I've worked on cars with ladder frames, and secure points are obvious, but looking under my wifes Mazda, it's all thin sheet metal. I can use the points on the sides where the stock jack goes, but thats not nearly secure enough for to let me work under the car. The Chiltons manual is no help either, only giving the warning not to choose the wrong points, or face serious damage.
Thanks

You should use the original screw thread jack that converts into a diamond shape as you wind it up!The lift points are about a foot back from the front wheel well and about a foot in front of the rear w/well! The jack locates on a lip that runs right along the underbody about in line with the wheels! If you have an hydraulic type jack you will not have enough length in the ram to lift at these points!Go to an auto wreckers and get the original one they're cheap and easy to use and you don't have to crawl under your car like you would with an hydraulic type!

Roger, disregard all that, I see you are aware of the standard jack points, but I wouldn't recommend being under a car that was jacked up anyway unless when it was jacked you put "stands" under it or you ran it up on a set of ramps!

I use a 2 ton hydraulic jack routinely to lift my 99 Mazda 626. Contrary to your statement, it will lift the car off the ground far enough to get the wheels off and then some. The jacking points on most Mazdas, including my 626 are the same - place the jack under the raised crease that runs along the sides of the car. Front end - about 6 inch from the front wheel well, rear about 8 inches from the rear.
I usually use two jacks, one on each side to evenly lift two wheels off the ground. My hydrulic jack saddle has a notch in it which ensures that it will not slip off the crease. I also use a heavy rag on the saddle to prevent paint damage of the crease.
