| Rebuilt Millenia S engine, still knocks!! Supercharger??September 17 2003 at 12:30 AM No score for this post | Shawn |
| Hello everyone, I have a question about my 95' Millenia S. I bought it with a knock, it drove fine otherwise until the engine got hot..then it lost almost all power. I rebuilt the engine only to have it knock even worse!!! All of the specs were dead on with OEM standards so I know it is NOT the rods like I had originally thought. And like I said,it actually seems to knock WORSE now?! I have read that for some reason the supercharger can cause this. But I can't find anywhere that will rebuild, or sell me a rebuild kit for the supercharger? Does anyone have ideas? The engine will run like a sewing maching at about 1500 or higher RPM's, but when you let it drop to idle it knocks like a SOB. I should clarify more bye saying that it sounds more like a big diesel engine idleing. I also experienced a powerloss and rev limitations before the rebuild that I was told could be caused my malfunctioning traction control system (my light wouldn't go off which kind of verified this). Any ideas out there that can help me out? This engine is REALLY pissing me off and I want to get it running ASAP since my daily driver dropped a cylinder this past weekend. |

I have read on other Mazda help sites that the supercharger makes that noise - that is part of the nature of the beast. They say that when you no longer hear the knocking then it's time to worry. Personally I don't believe that. I have a 2000 MM S and I do not hear a loud knocking or even a soft knocking sound. I had a 1984 Volvo turbo diesel and I know the sound you are describing - like pebbles rattling around in a tin can. Yes the TCS can cause you to lose power etc. Some makes of cars have what is known as a "limp home" setting, put into play by the on-board computer. This allows you to get home when something serious goes wrong and you are not stuck by the side of the road. You do need to look at the TCS bits/pieces. Many of the functions of the Mazda Millenia series are artsy-fartsy things that the corner mechanic hasn't a clue about. If you have a supercharger engine (2.3L) then go to a trained Mazda dealer. | |
