what oil weight to use in a new MPV

the cap says 5W20 weight, but i live in Phoenix, should i use a thicker oil?

i use only sae 50w racing semi-synthetic. Runs great, no knocking

Read the owners manual, it should say somewhere in there what oil you should use for your tempreture range. My owners manual for my 1993 929 has me use 10W-30 while my Ford Ranger recommends 5W-30 although I live in San Diego, these weights cover most of the tempreture ranges. At the most I would use no more than 10W-40 in a new engine.

In Phoenix you should use at least 10W30 all year round and go to 10W40 in the peak of summer. Yes, 5W20 is way too thin for this climate.
