| The recommendation for replacing the timing belt is 60,000 miles? (see earlier message)
What is a reasonable cost for replacing the water pump and timing belt ?
When replacing the timing belt should the Timing Belt Idler and Timing Belt Tensioner be replaced? |

I have reead Mazda timing belts hold-up pretty well and I allowed my to get close to 70K prior to replacing. I don't think I would let it go that long again, it's not as though there are timing belt sales. The cost will probabley be the same at 60K as will at 70K, so why be broken down at the side of the road and have pay for a tow.
Conventional wisdom is to replace the water pump when replacing the timing belt as most of the cost for the repair is labor. So have the pump replaced, if it fails 20-30K after have belt replaced you will have to for that labor again.
I live in Ohio and the bill for parts and labor is $300-400.

It is a good idea to replace the cam sprocket seals and front crankshaft seal when changing the timing belt. | |
