About 2 months ago, my transmission (98 Mazda 626) started to slip...and clunk
hard when shifting in and out of reverse. I think the clunking was the first
symptom, then the slipping. I took it to the guy who had rebuilt the tranny of
my ex-vehicle just fine, and he rebuilt this one, but it's not fine.
First, when I got it back, I drove it 40 minutes or so, when it began to shift
really hard...at all speeds. (I was on the freeway when it started.) It was the
worst when I slowed to a stop...the final clunk would jolt the whole car.
I took it back, he said it must be the electronic something or other that would
have to be cleared and reloaded. O.K.
So he did that, and after driving the car about 40 minutes again, it started the
same clunking!!
I took it back. This time he said it was the motor mounts. He replaced two.
Now the clunk while driving is milder, but still really noticeable when shifting
in or out of reverse.
What the heck?! What do you guys think it is? I dread going back to this
tranny shop again.
