The transmission on my '92 626LX has abruptly stopped working without any warning. The car was running fine, smoothly shifting without delays until one day I stopped and then pressed the accelerator to go again and the engine revved but the car stayed put. Haven't got it to move since. Have checked the transmission fluid, it's full...
Since then, the hold light has started flashing when I start the ignition. The engine also revs faster than normal when idle, ocsillating between about 1500 and 2000rpm. I was thinking there could be an electrical problem? Or could it be a problem with the transmission itself (hoping not, have had quotes for rebuilding the transmission and its expensive!)
Thanks!

I had the same problem with my 1990 626 DX has a g4ael transmission in it. I experienced the same symptoms (car was fine, stopped at stop sign, hit gas and wouldn't move) It turns out that there was a recall on mine and it never got fixed but regardless it just involved the spool valve. This is just a pressure valve that is behind a bolt and spring on driver's side down at wheel well right above the hydraulic line going to the transmission cooler in radiator. What happened was the spool valve was made without a seat for the spring, so sometimes the spring off seats and jams the valve in place causing it to block hydraulic pressure ffrom oil pump in tranny. Hope this helps it fixed mine without having to spend $2000 for an overhaul...
