have recently top-o/hauled the car (chgd head gasket, inlet/exhaust gasket, vlv seals, grind vlv, skim head etc). chkd the plugs few days later and found all of them were black!!.. is that normal? also still seeing white smoke when the car is rev up to above 5k rpm. mechanic claimed the smoke would normally dissapear after 2 weeks. true or just shitty??....

No, it's not normal for the plugs to be black, but the condition of the deposits making them black can provide a clue as to why they are.
If they're a dry, sooty black it can indicate a rich mixture or weak ignition.
If they're an oily black it can mean oil is working its way into the combustion chamber past worn valve guides or piston rings.
White smoke is typically indicative of moisture in the exhaust system as a result of condensation or a leaking head gasket.

I just spent $300 to learn that the new radiator that I had put in was bad and to have it replaced. This was much cheaper than replacing the head gasket that I was being told by someone else was bad.

How about enlightening us as to how a bad radiator can cause white exhaust smoke.
