I believe I need to replace the blower motor on my 91 b2200...the fan was only working on the 3rd and 4th highest settings but recently has all but stopped working on those as well...from what I've read sounds like the blower motor...any other suggestions and it is inside the cab under the glove box right?

thanks!

Good news, I have the 1988 B2200 factory manual and it details how to check it; bad news, it doesn't state how to replace it. But I had copied a few pages for B2200s out of an older Chilton AC manual (good) but it got the replacement instructions wrong, or at least more difficult than necessary. It is under dash, passenger side. I replaced mine last year so I've done this before (my motor brushes were worn out).
First, checking: (1) remove front right plastic panel. (2) undo the wire connector (3) turn on the engine and heat/AC and check for voltage at wires with a test light or voltmeter. If the wire doesn't have positive voltage, you have a different issue. My book shows different resistances between various leads on the blower motor, between 0.1 and 2.1 ohms, with a diagram, which I don't know how to post.
second, replacement: (1) remove front right plastic panel. (2) undo the wire connector (3) remove the three screws, either 8mm socket (1/4 drive better) or phil. head. (4) ease out blower motor assembly (5) transfer fan blade to new blower motor (6) install in reverse order. You do not need to remove the ECU computer from the truck panel as my one source said. My replacement came from Autozone, #PM3715, and was in-stock 1 mile away. The manual also has details for the blower switch, let me know if you absolutely need resistance scans of either that or the blower motor, and leave your E-mail address.

Replaced the blower motor cause it wasn't putting out any air. Neither is the one I just put in. Someone suggested it might be the 'switch'-I presume he meant the switch that turns on the blower. Easy to replace? Costly?
Thanks,

Chet

It's more than likely the resistor block that's bad.

Took the car to have the AC recharged. On the way over I notice the fan isn't working. The AC guy tests the system under the glovebox and
tells me I've got power; thus, the motor must be bad. Found a motor at a recycling center. Put it in, still no fan. Motor or resistor block? Sounds like
the motor I bought wasn't good. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Chet

Now does the motor/fan spin (should be able to hear it or feel it if you get close to it) but no air comes out the vents? That's a different problem which I also had: in that case a leaky AC evaporator got clogged with refigeration oil and dirt which blocked the air flow, even in "vent" or in "heat" modes as the air path needs to flow through the evaporator. So check to see if the blower motor/fan is spinning, but no air comes out the vents. Also see if the air is coming out by the windshield or below dash, as those are other positions used by defrost and heating, all controlled by cables. cussboy@cox.net

Tried what you suggested Cussman. Listened carefully for any type of spinning of the motor in all positions (air, heater, defrost). STill no sound. Probably a bad motor. Hopefully the guy will exchange it for one that works--hopefully! Am going back to the AC place and see if they can test the electrical conduits to the motor again. Just to be sure. What do you think?

Thanks

Have you tested the resistor block and made sure it's not defective? You see, the motor gets its voltage through the resistor block. If the block is bad, you'll either get no operation of the motor at all or else it won't operate on one or more speeds.

Would I get any electrical signal to the plugs going into the motor if the resistor block was defective? Obviously, I don't know what the resistor block does or I wouldn't ask such a stupid question.

Finally narrowed it down to the blower motor resistor block. What's the best place, meaning price, to get it from? I've scoured the recycling yards in my area (Long Beach, CA) and don't find any 93's on the lot. A dealer parts dept. told me the same resistor could be found in anything from a 93-97 626 or MX 6. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Chet

I believe all B2200/B2000 (1986-1993) would use the same resistor block. Call the dealer to find out how much a new one costs so you can determine if a used one will be worth it. Dealer should also be able to tell you if those other models have same part number.
