Is there a way to turn the Check Engine Light off?

I have a 98 Protege. The check engine light comes on and stays. I brought it to a shop, they fixed some things, and the light went off. However, a week later it came on again. I suspect the computer is faulty. Is there a way to manually turn off the light?

I have a 1996 Mazda 626 which is given me a headache with its faulty tranny. The check engine light comes on all the time, I unhook one of the battery leads and press the brake pedal 10x, hook the battery up and the check engine light goes off. I hope this helps and if I were you get rid of your Mazda if it is an automatic transmission no matter what model it is or risk it.

Pull the codes from the computer. Get it fixed then you can reset the light.
