So. . . Here goes!
The problem first appeared with the temp guage reporting the truck was over-heating. However, the guage would climb from cold to overheating in 5min or so. After changing the thermostat, the coolant temp-sensor, and having a mechanic run a a temp-gun on the engine for 20 min, we determined that it must be the temp sensor contained within the electronic instrument cluster housing.
After this began happening, the lights in the cluster began burning out one by one, and now only a portion of the speedo light remains on. None the less it's evident that I need to change this part. I just have a few questions.
1: Anyone out there expierence anything similar?
2: There's 130k on the truck, if I buy a new (or used) cluster, the odometer won't read the same. Since it's electronically controlled, anyone know if there's a way of rolling it back or forward (whichever the part I pick up requires). . . can a dealer do this??
3: Anyone know of a parts dealer that will supply these at a good price. Mazda want's $360CDN for it. The wreckers want's $125 but I'm gun-shy of buying electrical from the bone yard.
Note: It's not as simple as changing just the temp guage or the burnt one's as all guages are contained in the same housing cluster.
If anyone can offer any suggestion, advice or similar expierence it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks kindly.---Adam
