"Procedure for timing"?.. Did you mean procedure for timing belt replacement?
I just replaced the timing belt on my 99 626 V6. this car was an absolute nightmare to replace a timing belt on. My advice is, if you have never replaced a timing belt, do not start on a transversely mounted V6 Mazda engine. The clearances are extremely tight, you need several special tools (such as air impact wrench to get the crankshaft pulley bot loose, crankshaft dampener puller, etc. Your car may even require removal of one of the engine mounts and supporting the engine to replace the timing belt (my car did).
Advice - take the car to a Mazda dealer if you are not sure - it is much better to pay $ 350 then to screw thing up and have to take it is for another belt change later.
The procedure for replacing the timing belt can be found in a shop manual for you car. A Haynes manual may be sufficient if you do not want to spend the money. typically, you jack up the car, remove the wheel on the passenger side, remove the engine splansh shield, remove the drivebelts, remove the crankshaft pulley bolt, pull off the dampener. You may need to remove the oil dipstick tube to remove the crankshaft position sensor. Then you remove the timing belt cover(s). Remove the spark plugs, turn the engine clockwise by the cranksahft pulley bolt (reinstall the bolt for this purpose) to line up the timing marks according to your manual. Remove the timing belt as described in the manual. You may wan to replace the water pump and oil seals at the same time. Replacing cam sprocket oil seals requires removal of the cam sprockets. You may need to remove the valve covers and hold the cams in place with a wrench to do this. You need to hold the cams in place on hex portion of the cam when torquing the sprocket bolts to spec upon reassembly. Special tricks good practice are needed to remove and install oil seals without damaging the hoising or rotating parts. Do not attempt to do this if you have never done it. Take my word for it. If you score the rotating parts of the cam under the seal, you will buy new cams. | |
