B2600i 4x4 front wheel bearingsFebruary 23 2005 at 2:42 PM No score for this post | KJ Smith |
| I have a 1992 B2600i 4x4. The truck is not getting younger and I wonder if the front wheel bearings need to be checked/repacked. My dad always did his old Chevy every year. I have not lived up to that standard. I had a couple of quotes on checking and repacking the front bearings. One was very high because, so they said, the front axle will have to be removed. Another was much lower. Anyone have any experience in this area? What is the recommended time/mileage when bearings should be repacked/checked and how necessary is it to repack the bearings. Is it something a home mechanic could try. I am envisioning special tools? Any help appreciated. |

Get a service manual for the trucik and follow the instructions. You need to take apart the locing hubs before you get to the bearings. It is doable by a home mechanic but you need an exploded diagragram, follow it carefully and do one side at a time. | |
