Car is great except there's a jerk/hesitation coming from a stop. tranny seems fine in all other gears. Any ideas? gas filter? sensor? anybody have similiar problem? THANKS.Also if anyone has a good Mazda mechanic in the San Diego for routine maint. let me know.

Could be any of a number of things. Attempting to diagnose the cause without being there to observe it is a crapshoot.
Check and replace any vacuum hoses that could be leaking. If that doesn't help, find a reputable mechanic to look at the car. Replacing parts without knowing for sure that they're bad could cost you a small fortune.
