My car was working fine. After parking and returning to my car the car wouldn't start. Thought it was a dead battery. A friend gave me a jump an the interior lights came on (door was open) when he connected the cables. When I turned the the ignition to the on position the dash lights came on ok. Everything looked fine (bright lights, not dim). When I turned the ignition to start, nothing happened. That was only for a second or so. After that none of the lights worked. Even if I took the keys out of the car an repeated the procedure - still dead.

As a precaution, I took out the battery and put it on charge overnight. When I reconnected this morning same thing. Lights work until I turn ignition to the start position.

Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

By the symptoms your describing, I would remove the alternator and take it to an auto parts store to have them check it. It sounds as if as soon as you turn ther ignition key to the start position, the excitation circuit of the alternator maybe the culprit. The battery is sapped, drawn down. Also take the battery with you to the auto part store and have them load test it. It the battery is weak, the same result of nothing as soon as you try to crank the car over. Good luck, just some ideas. Some of the old pro may goff at my sugestions, but as I said they are potential ideas of what to do to fix it.
Next thing is good luck finding someplace open during the holiday weekend.
